    (J) - 1. At the Munich coference Hitler promised no to take anymore land further than Sudentenland (Czech). There was a pact signed between the U.S.S.R, & Germany called the Nazi-Soviet pact and agreed to divide Poland between them. The fact that Germany invaded Poland after promising not to take anymore land at the Munich coference cause Britain & France to declare war on Germany just 2 days later on September 3, 1939. This was also known as the policy of appeasement.

    (C) - 3. The raid of Dieppe was a plan by Canadian and British troops to test the German forces along the French Coast. The main reasons for the raid were to releive pressure on the Soviet Union, deceive the Germans, give Canadian soldiers a chance to fight, and to gain experience for a major assault. The plan was to attack quickly, gather information, and return to Britain. Approxiametly 5000 Canadian troops went. Half were wounded, arrested, or killed.

    (C) - 2. D-Day occurred on June 6, 1944. This event was an attempt to get onto the continent and infiltrate the Nazi front along northern France. The invasion was fought on the Normandy beaches of northern France. Canadians fought at Juno beach. General Eisenhower was Commader-in-Chief of the Allied forces. 1074 Canadian casualties and 359 deaths. This invasion was significant becauseit marked the beginning of the end for Hitler and the Nazis, Hitler lost, and Hitler was fighting 2 fronts.
