Japan attacked the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The U.S. lost over 2,300 troops, and this caused the U.S. to enter WWII.

The Allied countries invaded Europe. Germany's last fight was at the Battle of the Bulge, (Dec. 1944-Jan. 1945) where they tried to defend themselves from America and Britain, but they were defeated. Germany formally surrendered on May 8th, 1945.
