  • Hitler invades Poland

    Hitler invades Poland
    This was one of the very first thinks to spark the fueds of World War II. The German invasion of Poland was the proverbial "last straw" that France and England could take from Hitler. Hitler had already invaded parts of Czechoslovakia, which England and France did not act. But once Hitler had invaded Poland, Britan and France were quite upset. Canada had little part in this, but was affected because this had been a great spark in the declaration of the world war

  • First Canadian troops arrive in Britain

    First Canadian troops arrive in Britain
    Throughout December is when the first of the Canadian troops had arrived in Britain to fight in the war.

    These were extremely large battles, which later on caused these countries to surrender. The Germans were extremely powerful. Canada had little part in this but this was a very significant day in WWIIs history

    4 million German troops poured over the Russian border. Within one month, over two and half million Russians had been killed, wounded or captured. But as winter came along, the Germans were stuck in merely their summer uniforms and were caught beneath the bitter cold. This had greatly weakend their attack and this was a great loss for Germany. Canada didnt have a part in this but it was a great impact in the war

  • Dieppe Raid

    On August 19th, 1942, the ground forces that were taking part in this raid included 4,963 men from the 2nd Canadian Division, 1,005 British commandos, 50 US rangers and 15 Frenchmen. A flock of 237 ships, landing barges & destroyers, brought them close by the seashore. In the air, Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force bombers and fighters took part in the operation.

The Battle of Sicily was the beggining event in the Italian Campaign of the Second World War. This battle also marked the first protracted combat deployment of the Canadian army

    this began with allied armies from the U.S, Britain and Canada landing on the coast of Normandy. Fourteen thousand young Canadians stormed Juno Beach on D-Day. The troops courage and determination caused the troops immediate success. The fighting they endured was heavy and frightening. As a result, the battles cost 340 Canadian lives and another 574 wounded
