World War 2 timeline

  • The war begins!

    The war begins!
    On 9/1/39 Germany invaded Poland. As a result to this world war 2 had gone into full swing. This did not make Britain or France happy making these two countries declare war on Germany. Thats when the battle of atlantic eventually came about later in september.
  • Auschwitz

    In early May of 1940 Nazi Germany created just one of their many concentration camps. Auschwitz, a very framiliar name to many people mainly because of the harsh things the Nazis had done to the Jews. 1.1 million Jews were killed at this camp, making it around 1,000 people a day.
  • The German invasion

    Germany invades France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Germany moved aggresivly making their first target the Netherlands. After the Netherlands Hitler made his next move into belgium. After Belgium Hitler acted quickly and bombed Paris defeating France with ease.
  • France Surrenders to Germany

    France Surrenders to Germany
    June 22, 1940 France gave in to Germany. France could not keep up with Germanys "lightning warfare". 5 days prior on june 17th, 1940 on a radio broadcast Marshall Petaine said "It is with a heavy heart that I tell you today that we must stop fighting" which was France's last straw.

    On December 7th, 1941 a nation was shocked as the Japanese threw a suprise attack, attacking a harbor in Hawaii. This caused the US to go to war.

    Germany and Italy war on the US
    Germany and Italy declares war on the united states. Directly after that the united states responded by declaring war on Italy and Germany. President Roosvelt was ready to go to war.

    The Battle of Midway was the most important naval battle in WW2. In this battle the United States dominated the Japanese Navy beating them only six months after Pearl Harbor.
  • Adolph Hitler kills himself

    Adolph Hitler kills himself
    The Nazi party had been going down hill in the last year of the war. With the loss of the war of berlin Hitler announced that he would eventually shoot himself. Hitler later in the year killed himself in a bunker.

    Hiroshima was the first of two victims of the atomic bomb. The us dropped this bomb and to this day there is still some radiation that may never go away.
  • Second atomic bomb

    Nagasaki was the final straw in the war causing the us to win. Many died because of this leaving japan in devastation.
