    Germany Attacks Denmark and Norway
    Germany invades Denmark and Norway. Shortly after, attacks on Netherlands,Belgium, and France occurred. The next day, Canada declares war on Germany. This is significant because this is when Canada takes action and enters the war.
  • Japan Joins the Axis Power

    Japan Joins the Axis Power
    Japan joined the axis because the axis did not get in the way of its plans to dominate Asia, whereas the U.S. and Britain did. Germany allowed the Japanese to join solely to give the U.S. a thorn in its side if war should come. We would be busy fighting a Pacific war and could not throw the full force of our industrial and military might against Germany in Europe. Japan would have NEVER attacked the U.S. alone, without a European war going on at the same time.

    Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbour because of being fed up with the restrictions placed on them by America (steel, needed oil, etc). Japan also declares war on Canada, who declares war on Finland, Hungary, Japan and Romania.

    The US troops and Canadians troops assist eachother as they take out the Japan navy. The Americans located the Japanese fleet in the early morning and commenced a costly air strike that only 6 of the attacking 41 torpedo bombers survived.

    Canadian forces in Italy attempt an attack on German defences over the Arielli River. The outcome of the battle was horrendous, with 185 Canadian troops dead or wounded.

    D-Day
    Codenamed Operation Overlord, the battle began on June 6, 1944, also known as D-Day, when some 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required extensive planning and Canada was given an important role which was to cover one of the five beaches that allied forces were to land on.
