  • SS St. Louis

    SS St. Louis
The jews attempted to flee Germany on a ship by the name of SS St. Louis. They arrived in Canada but were turned away. Other countires did the same and the majority of the jews abored the ship ended up in concentration camps. This event shows that even Canada, a country known for its diversity, denied jews out of not only fear but because we believed it wasn't out problem.
  • Canada Declares War

    Canada Declares War
Canada was not immediatly edmitted into the war when Britain declared war, unlike in the first world war, but chose to support Britain and France in the battle against the Germans. We were, and still are, loyal to Britain. The signifigance is that some battle, such as the battle of Ortona, would have been lost with out our assistance.
  • The Battle Of Britain

    The Battle Of Britain
Canada greatly assisted Britain during this battle, We sent over 2353 pilots and 574 ships to defend Britain. Without the help of the Canadians Britain might have lost this excrutiantingly important battle. If they had lost Hitler would have almost all of europe under his control, meaning he would have the upper hand.
  • Japanese Internment

    Japanese Internment
Japanese interment all happened due to racism. The Japanese were against us during the war and we believed that our own Japanese-Canadians were spys to the Japanese. We took them from their homes, sold their possesions, treated the as pests all from the racist beliefs we had about them. This was a dark time in Canadian history and is sigifiant for it teaches us to not make the same mistakes as before.
  • Conscription Plebiscite

    Conscription Plebiscite
Conscription, forcing Canadians go to war, was a problem that Mackenzie King faced. He knew that he didn't want to repeat the crissis of ww1 so he let the people of Canada decide whether or not Canadians should be drafted into the war. The vote was that Quebec-Canadains were against the idea but the English-Canadians were for it. Macknzie King passed the law later on in the war.
  • Dieppe Attack

    Dieppe Attack
The Dieppe was the battle were the Candians were basically sent to slaughter. The Canadians were idol in the war, sitting in Britain begging to be sent out. They were sent to Dieppe to test how well the Germans defence was but they were sent to one of the easiest places for the Germans to defend. The result was 907 Canadian soldiers killed, 2,460 wounded, and 1,946 Canadians taken prisoner. This was the worst organised and thoughtout plan during ww2. it is signifigant for that reason.
  • Battle Of Ortona

    Battle Of Ortona
The battle of Ortona was a battle where the Canadians began to liberate Italy. Canadians used a technique of house to house combat, ridding each and every house of Nazi's before continuing forward. It was a battle that lasted 30 days without even a break. Canada showed incredible bravery and defeated the Germans at the end of the 30 days. That was its signifigance.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
D-day was the begining of the ending of the war. Allied forces pushed German forces back from France, a long awaited accomplisment. It was an outright success with way less casualties than inticipated. It was the first time that three nations, Britain, Canada, U.S, all worked together in such success.
