    Germany had pushed too far and could no longer be ignored, appeasement ends. The declaration of war by France and the United Kingdom was given on 3rd September 1939, after German forces invaded Poland. Australian Prime Minister Robert Menzies asked the British government to notify Germany the Australia was an associate of the United Kingdom.
