    Militarism was a big priority for some European countries even before World War I. World War I was not the sole reason why militarism became so popular. When countries started having conflicts, such as civil wars, they began to spend more money on military equiptment.

    Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were touring Sarajevo when nationalist Nedjelko Cabrinovic threw a bomb at their open car. The car rolled off and and killed some bystanders also.

    Nationalism is when you place your country and its intrests above eveyone elses. You could say that World War I started because of excessive nationalism. Because every country thought that their country was the best, they got into many conflicts which resulted in a war.

    When a Serbian nationalist assasinated Franz Ferdinand, a month later Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. That was the beginning of the World War I.

    Formed alliances between countries dragged each other into war. Britain, France, and Russia were part of the Triple Entente. Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy were part of the Triple Alliance. When one country got into a conflict with the other, it dragged all the other countries into the conflict as well.

    Zimmerman Telegram was a diplomatic communication issued from the German Foriegn Office. It was proposing an alliance between Germany and Mexico after the United States entered the World War.
