Fought in France, the main combatants of this battle were Canada, in aid of the UK, and Germany. Four divisions of the Canadian Corps faced three divisions of the German Sixth Army in this opening phase of the Battle of Arras, led by the British. The objective was to take control of the German-held high ground along the northernmost end of the Arras Offensive, and by the first day, Canada had captured most of the ridge.
