    Germans sank Lusitania that was a civilian ship carrying Americans.

  • Battle of the Somme

    5 month battle between the British and French empires against the German empire.

  • President Wilson Re-Elected

    President Wilson is re-elected

  • Zimmerman note intercepted

    The Zimmerman note was a secret diplomatic communication issued from the foreign German Office that proposed a military alliance between Germany and Mexico in the event that the U.S. declared war on Germany.

    Allowed the federal government to raise a national army for the American entry into WW1 through the compulsory enlistment of people.

    Flu outbreak that killed more than those in WW1. Killed between 20 and 40 million people. Known as the most devastating epidemic in U.S. history.

    Russia exits world war 1 and signs the peace treaty of Brest-Litovsk

    Speech given by President Woodrow Wilson. It was a statement of principles of peace that would be used for the peace negotiations used to end WW1.
