Bill of Rights
After the leaders of the new United States wrote the Constitution, they had to get the thirteen states to agree to it. Some of the states didn't want to agree unless they could add some specific rights for individual people. So in 1791 the United States added ten new rights to the Constitution. -
Louisiana Purchase
In 1803, Thomas Jefferson bought a huge piece of land in the middle of now U.S.A from France. France's leader, Napolean sold Jefferson the land for a cheap price because he thought he might lose it soon. This was the Louisiana Purchase. -
Lewis & Clark Expedition
Lewis and Clark were asked by President Thomas Jefferson to explore and map the wild west of North America. They traveled across the country to the Pacific Ocean and back again. -
Indian Removal Act
The US government passed a law in 1830 called the Indian Removal Act. This allowed the US government the right to force Indian tribes to vacate their land and move to reservation lands, geographical areas the government had put aside for their use. Most Indian tribes did not want to leave their land. It was their spiritual and physical home. But the government sent in the army to force tribes to move. -
