    In 1600 the first dutch trading docked in Japan. After the banishment of the Portuguese the dutch among the Chinese were the only countries permitted to trade with the Japanese. Throughout their settlement the dutch brought many new inventions and technologies from the western world to Japan. The dutch became the only connection japan had to accessing western technologies. The dutch throughout this times greatly influenced japan through planting technology from the western world into Japan.

    As a result of the arrival of commodore Perry there was a lot of disagreement amongst the Japanese population on wether they should let the Americans stay or not.   • Yokohama Earthquake 1923

    Following the earthquake in 1923 a large fire spread across Yokohama. Majority of the houses back then were all made out of wood causing for almost all houses to be burned down. Following this the Japanese decided to ask the westerners to help them build concert/brick houses that would be stronger. Hence now in Yokohama all houses since are brick/concrete.
