  • Stockmarket crash part 1

    peopel could not sell their shares fast enough. top bankers met that friday and bought stocks above current market prices to try to stop the rapid decline in prices. this action by bankers only delayed the collapse by a few days. returne to "big business" in additional to its pro-business stance, harding's death in office in 1923 how it was after ww1 b4 the great depression, the good times.
  • Great Depression

    one fourth of the labor face was out of work. hourly wages dropped by 50% hundreds of banks had failed price for agricultural products dropped to their lowest level jmce the civil war. the worst unemployment rate was in 1932 and 23.6% 13 to 15 million was unemployed the government instituted a senes of experimentasl projects and programs, know collectively as the "new deal" that almed to restore insperity to many americans many were deprived of their homes or were evicted.
  • Robert Taft

    robert taft was a conservation american politican, statement and presidention hopeful taft was the senates main opponent of franklin roosevelts new domestic policies called the "new deal" he denounced the socialism trends of the new deal.
  • Migrant Mother

    Her photographs of migrant workers homeless, women and children helphed draw attention to the desperate conditions in rural america and helped to bring attention the need for direct relief
  • William Randolph Hearst

    Hearst reputation suffered in the 1930's as his political views changed in 1932 he was a major supporters of FDR his newspaper throughout 1933. Hearst broke with FDR in the spring of 1935 when president voted the patman bonus bill.
  • Franklin D Roossevelts Presidency

    He deafeated herbert hoover in the 1932 election. only thing we have to fear itself "FDR was trying to say that our fera is whats causing to go to wrong if gave the american people government time to calm down and make recovery plans. the greatest problem was the widespread of unemployment due to the stock market crash of 1932 and the dustbolw. FDR promised americans a "New Deal" to put them back to work the 3R's rellief,recovery, and reform.
  • Tennessee Valley Authority

    built 21 government owned dams doing the Tn river. Controlled floods and produced electricity. Some feared it as a form of socialism
  • FDIC

    is the federal deposit insurance copration. its an independent agency of the us federal government that preserves public confidence in the banking system by insuring deposits. president franklin roosevelt signed the banking act in 1933 a part which established FDIC. this was a plot of roosevelts "reform Legislation" during the new deal.
  • Francis Townsend

    Dr. francis was a physician who devised the townsend plan. the plan promised to end the great depression by opening up jobs for younger workers, while forcing seniors to spend money in the consumer economy. Adopted a version of the Townsend plan when the security program was created.
  • The Gold Standard

    gold and silver where traded. use of the gold standard came to an end in 1933 when president Roosevelt outlawing the ship of gold, but roosevelt wanted people to rely on paper money (fiat money) in order to expand the money supply and stimulate econimic inactivity.
  • Social Security act

    1935 was probably the most important measure of the new deal. it provided workers with unemployment insurance old age pensions, and insurance if they died early, workers and their employers each paid new contributions to fund these benefits. Roosevelts put this place with the "New deal" as part of the reform of the 3r's
  • AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Act)

    gave farmers government payment to grow farmer crops. Smaller suply of groups would increase demand for those crops, this would help farmers earn money. Its purpose was to improve and preserve national soil resources. Also prevent it from eroding. Long term effect was to help keep the pricing of groups established.
  • judicial procedures reform bill 1937

    purpose: to obtain favorable ruling regarding new deal legislation. cause:add more justices to the U.S supreme court. viewed: the congress saw it as unconstitutional. issued: he stepped pass presidetial power and did not follow check and balance.
  • grapes of wrath 1939

    Route 66: main road of exodus for those feeling from harsh economic and environmental conditions of the dust bowl. Oakies- they called immigrants workers this. it was a nickname that meant scum. they moved to find new means of survival. mild climates allowed for a long growing season in california and steady income. they found low paying jobs. corporation owned farms.
  • New Deal

    rossevelt blamed the bankers selfishness and financiers for current crisis. rossevelt pused through legislation which is hard in less critical times. All the important bills submitted in these 1st 100 days rossevelt explained these "New Deal" measures as the three R's relief,recovery,reform.
  • 21th Amendment

    In 1933, the 21st amendment to the constitution was passed and ratified ending national prohibition. After the repeal of the 18th amendment some states continued prohibition by maintaining statewide temperance laws.
  • 20th Amendment

    the cause was for duck sessions lame duck sessions of congress in the united statesoccurs whenever one pres meets. after is expected. what each amendment did it change where both president couldnt be in the same building.
  • immigrants during the depression

    with less demand for workers during depression white american farmers sought after jobs filled by mexican immigrants. public hostility grew towards mexicans which made it difficult for them to enter the U.S. President hoover authorized the mexican repatration act which sent mexicans back to mexico do to lack of jobs.
