Integration was mandated back in 1971. It ended (although successful) in 1988.

After trying to change curriculum, staff, administrators, schedules, etc. nothing has helped close the achievement gap like integration. After 16 years, it was determined to not have worked. In truth, it did work. Black students were able to improve their lives through education equality. The only change was the demographics. As white families moved out of the city, to live in suburbs, the integration dissolved and with it, the opportunities for black students to succeed.
