  • Planning

    A group that was part of the Committee trying to reelect Nixon decided to wiretap the phones at the DNC. The group was led by Howard Hunt and Gordon Liddy.
  • Courtroom

    A reporter named Bob Woodford was assigned to the courtroom where the court would be meeting with five men who broke into the DNC. This seemingly bizarre incident ended up leading to a major scandal and forced president Nixon to resign.
  • Cover-Up

    In early 1973 the burglars finally decided to cooperate with the trial. This helped start the trial to actually start and things were slowly coming together.
  • The Tapes

    Nixon had refused to hand over the tapes and was trying to find a a way that he wouldn't have to. Archibald Cox took Nixon to court in order to make him give up the tapes. Nixon asked two people to fire Cox yet they both resigned because they didn't want to do it. Eventually the third person he asked did fire Cox yet he Nixon's reputation was severely damaged because of it.
  • Confessions

    John Dean had confessed that John Mitchell had ordered the Watergate break-in and that Nixon had taken part in it. Alexander Butterfield testified and said that Nixon had ordered tapes to be placed around the White House so he could write memoirs.
  • The Tapes are Released

    Nixon released the tapes which revealed that he was involved in the cover-up.
  • Nixon Resigns

    After almost getting impeached due to Watergate Nixon decided to resign. He was the first president to ever resign.
