Chauvin was later convicted of murder. The event was captured on cell phone video and instantly went viral on all social media and mass-media news outlets. Many people called for change in policing after the death. The death also sparked riots and protests across the United States and even Europe.

    This has been a trend for several years, but starting in 2020, this trend went super viral because it started causing deaths not only to those doing the challenges but the challenges also started targeting innocent people. TikTok was the main mode. This started the calls for TikTok to be banned in the US and those calls are still happening today but have switched from being about the challenges to being about privacy.

    On Jan 6, 2021 a group of Donald Trump supporters stormed the United States capital building in Washington DC to protest what they thought was a stolen election. The main form of social media used to spread word about the event was Twitter.
