George Floyd was stopped by police officers in Minneapolis, MN. Chauvin, a white police officer, placed his knee on Floyd's neck, cutting off Floyd's air supply and killing him. Chauvin was later convicted of murder. The event was captured on cell phone video and instantly went viral on all social media and mass-media news outlets. Many people called for change in policing after the death. The death also sparked riots and protests across the United States and even Europe. -
Dangerous TikTok Trends and Challenges
This has been a trend for several years, but starting in 2020, this trend went super viral because it started causing deaths not only to those doing the challenges but the challenges also started targeting innocent people. TikTok was the main mode. This started the calls for TikTok to be banned in the US and those calls are still happening today but have switched from being about the challenges to being about privacy. -
Jan 6 Election Riot
On Jan 6, 2021 a group of Donald Trump supporters stormed the United States capital building in Washington DC to protest what they thought was a stolen election. The main form of social media used to spread word about the event was Twitter. -

Kyrie Irving, an NBA basketball player, posted an Anti-Semitic book from Amazon. His actions angered the Jewish community and many religious and civil-rights groups. The post went viral and many people called for an end to Anti-Semitism. -
Kanye West and Adidas
Kanye West, a rapper, had a contract to promote Adidas products. But after he made Anti-Semitic comments, Adidas pulled the contract. The comments and the Adidas pull went viral on all forms of social media and people called for change and to treat Jews and others with dignity and respect.
