MILITARY: Viet Minh forces in the south organize a campaign of guerrilla warfare against Ngo Dinh Diem's administration.

MILITARY: Two military advisors are killed in a raid by Viet Minh soldiers and are the first american deaths recorded in Vietnam.

MILITARY: The United States announces that it will increase the number of military advisors in South Vietnam.

POLITICAL: Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson visits South Vietnam and offers military and economic aid to Ngo Dinh Diem.

MILITARY: Robert McNamara tells the press that the Kennedy Administration intends to withdraw most American forces from South Vietnam.

PROTESTS: Students gathered together to protest the war by burning their draft cards.

PROTESTS: 30,000 people attend a three day anti war teach-in at a university.

MILITARY: American ground forces engage the Viet Cong in direct fighting.

President Johnson releases Robert McNamara from his duties as secretary of defense and offers him a job as head of the world bank.

MILITARY: Vietcong forces fight beginning on the Tet holiday with a wave of Attacks supported by North Vietnamese troops. On April 3, Ho Chi Minhs government declares it is prepared to talk about peace.

MILITARY: Peace talks are held in Paris and Nixon announces his plans for Vietnamization of the war. This means they will train and transition South Vietnamese troops to replace American troops.

MILITARY AND PROTESTS: Nixon announces that American and South Vietnamese units have invaded Cambodia. Students at Kent State University organize a protest against this invasion. The National Guard was called to get rid of the students but they rufused to leave so they started shooting into the crowd.

MILITARY: The house and senate vote to withdraw all American troops in Vietnam.

MILITARY AND POLITICAL: In response to a major attack, president Nixon orders a massive bombing of Vietnam. He is later reelected when he defeats George McGovern.

POLITICAL: Representatives from South Vietnam, North Vietnam and the U.S sign a peace agreement. Ceasefire is declared.

POLITICAL: Pres. Nixon's request for increased military aid to South Vietnam is rejected. He then resigns because of the watergate scandal. The watergate scandal was when five men were caught burglarizing th headquarters of the Democratic National Committee.

MILITARY: North Vietnam takes Saigon. Days after this, the government of South Vietnam surrended to the Viet cong and north Armies.
