    Geneva Accords
    This resolved the end of the French Indochiina War in Vietnam. It was decided that Vietnam was to be split at the 17th parallel into noth and south. Ho Chi Mihn ruled the north while Ngo Diem took control of the south.

    Diem assasination
    Diem disliked Buddhism to the extent that he destroyed their temples and immprisioned and killed many Buddhists. Nuns and monks proteseted by purposely burning themselves to death. To stop this horror, the U.S. military assassinated Diem against Kennedy's wishes.

    Gulf on Tonkin Incident
    President Johnosn sent in a destroyer USS Madox to show A merica that he wasn't "soft on communism." The U.S thought North Vietnam shot at them so they fired back. Johnosn sent in more military troops without declaring war.

    It began when the Vietcong launched a surprise attack over 100 towns and cities in South Vietnam. This surprised America and also started to change their mindset about the war.
  • My Lai Massacre

    My Lai Massacre
    American soldiers killed most of the population of My Lai in South Vietnam. Women, children, and elderlies were included.
  • Kent State Massacre

    Kent State Massacre
    Peace advocates were angry that President Johnson wasn't keeping his promise to try to stop the war. Riots and protests errupted. The Ohio National Guard fired and killed four people.
  • 26th Amendment

    26th Amendment
    College students thought it unfair that at age 18 it was legal to fight in the military but too young to be able to vote. The amendment lowered the voting age from 21 to 18.
