The United States canceled the 1956 election in Vietnam, in fear Ho CHi Minh would win. Ho Chi Minh was corrupt, did not return land to peasants, and he restriced buddhists. -

Martin Luther KIng Jr. delivered his "I Have A Dream" speech, that showed support for Civil Rights. It talked about equality between races in all public places. -
JFK Assasination
Kennedy was assasinated by Lee Harvy Ozwald on the 6th floor of Texas School Book Depository. Jack Ruby killedd Ozwald two days later. -
Gulf of Tonkin Incident
North Vietnamese patrol boat fires on USS Maddox. Two days later, USS Maddox fires back. -
Tonkin Gulf Resolution
The resolutuion granted broad military powers to President Johnson. He could do this without declaring war on Vietnam. -
My Lai Massacre
American soldiers killed between 200 and 500 civilians at My Lai, located near the northern coast of South Vietnam. They aimed to kill Vietnam soldiers, but instead killed innocent people. -
LBJ Signs Civil Rights Act of 1968
The Civil Rights Act of 1968 gave equality to everyone, no matter race, religion, or gender. Lyndon B. Johnson took on the act when JFK was assasinated.
