    Students were protesting by throwing beer bottles at the police. The the National guard came in and shot 4 unarmed students, and wounded others.

    As public opinion oppesed the the war, the government had to slowly remove troops from Vietnam. As the U.S. withdrew, South Vietnam weakened, and eventually fell to communism
