    The troops cleared vegetation in order to make it more difficult for guerrillas to hide or ambush. The spread of "Agent Orange" beings in forests and crops that may feed Vietcong troops.

    American choppers and South Vietnamese fighters sweep stronghold near Saigon. This is the first combat mission against the Vietcong.

    President Johnson orders an attack after a controversial call from the Maddox. Two naval bases and an oil facility are destroyed.
