President Johnson expanded the American involvment by bombing Norht Vietnam, it was an attempt to confuse and to undermine the capacity of the goverment in North Vietnam. In the end Operation Rolling Thunder failed.

Vietcong and North Vietmamese launched a suprise attack, they attacked all of the American Airbases and most major cities in South Vietnam, The Tet Offensive was a complete failure for the communist, however the public opinions in America no longer favored the president.

Nixon announced that he withdrew 25,000 soldiers from South Viatnam. Nixon did not want to be seen as the weak one, so he increased the number of air strikes in North Vietnam.

The Cambodian invasion set off many protests. At Kent State Universety Ohio National Guard fired at the demonstrators, killing four students and wounding several others
