In 1873, A band of "Pirates" attacked the city of Da Nang, french leader Marie Joseph Louis Adolphe Thiers, declared war on the Qing and invaded North Vietnam. The war ended in 1886 and all of Vietnam was part of France.

The Sino-Vietnam war started when Vietnam attacked Cambodia because of Cambodia's mistreat and killing of Vietnamese people. This had the Chinese attack Vietnam to help its ally Cambodia in a war. -
In the past 50 years, China has been trying to move south into the south china sea. This is a problem because this would cut off most of Vietnam's supply coming to the area and going such as food, oil, recourse, and immigrants.
