    The British's goal with Saratoga was to cut the new england colonies off from the rest. the british planned three parts to get to their goal. 1st part: from canada, 8000 move south capturing forts along the way. 2nd part: from the west, a smaller force would go through mohawk valley. 3rd part: from the south, general howe would lead a large army up the hudson. king george ordered general howe to take philadelphia instead. then the americans cut off the british that were moving in from the west.
