    Robert E. Lee
    General Robert E. Lee was the leader of the Confederacy. I chose him as one of my major people because he had negative feelings towards slavery. For the United States, he was a symbol of South ressistance to the Union and was made an icon.
  • Ulysses S. Grant

    Ulysses S. Grant
    General Ulysses S. Grant was the leader of the North. I chose him as my rid most important because he was highly prepared for what was to come regarding battle. He essentially lead the North to victory and rejoined the U.S. again.
  • Jefferson Davis

    Jefferson Davis
    Jefferson Davis was the president and chief commander of the Confederate States of America until her surrendered to General Grant of the Union. I chose him because of his poor leadership, poor planning, and was very support of slavery. He did absolutely nothing for our country because he was starting to drive it into the ground. He really didn't do anything for the United States because he was starting to drive the country into the ground one battle at a time.
  • Andrew Johnson

    Andrew Johnson
    Andrew Johnson became president of the U.S. after Lincoln's death on April 15, 1865. I chose him as my fifth major person because he wanted to carrie on Lincoln's plan of Presidential Reconstruction. He treid helping the U.S. by continuing Lincoln's plan for the freed slaves, but later failed.

    Abraham Lincoln was president at the end of the Civil War until his assination on April 15, 1865.He was my first choice for my five major people because he knew what he was doing as far as planning and preparing. He ended slavery for the United States so that the Confederacy and the Union could reunite.

    Clothing/Fashion
    Clothing was definetely different. Everybody wore undergarments such as undershirts for men and petticoats as well as knickerbockers for women. Typically women in the early 1900s wore multiple outfits a day! Morning outfits, as well as lunch time, tea gowns, and evening dresses were woren. Most men wore trousers and button down shirts. Wealthier men wore 3 piece suits, while others wore loose clothing for sports. Kids, till the age of 5 wore dresses, then switched to trousers and shirts.

    Different houses were made back in this time period. Begininng in 1900, Victorian style houses were just starting to wittle away from the late Queen Victoria. In the late 1900s, modern, bungalow, and arts/crafts style houses came into popularity. Also in that time period, multiple electric appliances were invented. Electric vacuum cleaners, toasters, and dishwashers became popular as well as the refrigerator. Before electric appliances were made, people used brooms and washed dishes by hand.

    The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was one of the movies that all citizens looked forward to. Being filmed almost 30 years before the filming of The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland, it had the same story line. Only a few minor things changed. One, the movie only lasted a total of 13 minutes, and two, the wicked witch of the west had a name, Momba. Just to think that it all started with the book that L. Frank Baum had written years before.

    Robin Hood (Broadyway Show)
    Robin Hood was one of the popular broadway shows performed in the early 1900s. It first premiered in New York in 1891. The broadway show did not hit Knickerbocker Theatre until April 30, 1900. As the story is told, Robin and his gang steal from the rich, but never gave the thought of giving back. Prince John tries to change him from "hood into good".
  • The US Railroad Stations

    The US Railroad Stations
    The US railroad stations were the only main source of transportation besides boats during this time period. There were over 800 stations around the US, with 67 of them being in Pennsylvania. Many stations were located right here in Beaver County. There were stations built in places like Aliquippa, Ambridge, Beaver, Beaver Falls, Economy, Freedom, Midland, Monaca, New Brighton, Rochester, and Vanport.
  • The Robie House

    The Robie House
    This house, made by Frank Lloyd Wright, is located on Woodlawn Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. The house originally was for Mr. Fredrick C. Robie, but was later home to the Taylors family and the Wilburs family. Many people decribe the National Landmark as very open and colorful. The house is also known for its overhanging roofs.
  • Lincoln Memorial

    Lincoln Memorial
    The construction of this famous piece of history was started in 1914. The main structure was done by 1917, before World War I. Henry Bacon, one of the main architects, wanted a little piece of history from every state in the US to include in the master piece. Different types of stone came from each state. By the end of construction, all 48 states had contributed some piece of the land to the National Landmark.

    The broadway show Alone At Last was another performacne that keep viewers wanting to come back for more. The cast did over 180 performances. The setting of the musical is in Switzerland, which gave those viewers that had never been over seas an idea of what Switzerland was like.

    The hit broadway show "The Century Girl" seemed to awe the viewers in the early 1900s. The show first performed on Novemeber 6, 1916. The cast did a total of 200 shows over all. As the story is told, a girl named Daris Eaton Travis from Ziegfeld, takes a journey through life with ups and downs along the way.

    The Poor Little Rich Girl (the movie)
    This black and white movie, realeased on March 4, 1917, was one movie that made and impact on everyone's hearts. The 65 minute long movie won an award for National Film Registry. As the story is told, Gwen's family ignores her. Her father wants money and her mother wants a good social life. A sevant in the house makes one little mistake, and everyone sees whats really important to them.

    Tarzan of the Apes (the movie)
    The movie Tarzan of the Apes is what lead most of us to discover the movie Tarzan, created by Walt Disney. The 1 hour and 13 minute long movie first premiered on January 27, 1918. As the story is told, Tarzan and his parents sail to Africa where his parents pass away. Tarzan is found and raised by a family of apes. Years later, humans show up to Africa and Tarzan falls in love a scientists daughter named Jane.
