    Proclamation Line
    This line was drawn by the British Parliment to make it so the colonists could not settle past the Appalation mountians. This was very unsuccessful because it was inforcable due to the great distances seperating the British and American colonies.

    I'm going to start my timeline with the Proclamation Line set up by the British parliment in 1763.
  • Pontiac's Rebellion

    Pontiac's Rebellion
    The Indians tried to play both sides of the unrest and conflict between the Britsh and Americans. This, however; failed for them. The British gave them "gifts" infected with the small poxs disease to wipe them out without any bloodshed.
  • Grenville's Program

    Grenville's Program
    Grenville set up many acts on the colonists to raise taxes in the colonies and lower those of the taxes placed on the wealthy British people.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The sugar act was a tax put on sugar and other foreign goods that the colonists needed. This helped the British East India company in raising their profits.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    The colonists had a shortage of currency used to make trades. The British had the gold and silver they needed to make the important trades.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The colonists were forced to house, feed and basically do everything the British soldiers wanted while they stayed in the colonies. They had no say in this act.
  • Stamp Act

    This act made it so every document and important paper had to have the offical stamp of approval from the British Parliment on it.

    Sons of Liberty
    The Sons of Liberty began in New York City after the stamp act happened. They were led by Sammuel Adams and they all wanted freedom from British control.
  • The British in Boston

    The British in Boston
    The British soldiers marched into the city and pitched tents on the Boston common. They shut the city down to try and squeeze the colonists into give up their rebeillion.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    This wasn't really a massacre, just used as propaganda by the colonists to rial them aganist the British. The colonists threw rocks at the redcoats while they opened fire on the colonists. In the end only five people were killed.
  • Gaspee Incident

    Gaspee Incident
    A British ship that had been unfairly and illegal stealing from the colonists got stuck on a bank in the colonies. The colonists raided the ship, took the crew as hostages and burned the ship. They didnt get in trouble in the colonies and Britian was upset about it.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This act lead to the first revolutionary action taking by the colonists to break away from the British once and for all. The British rasied taxes on the colonists and then brought the tea over to sell to the colonists to make a huge profit.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Liberty boys dressed up as Indians and damaged/ threw tons of pounds of tea in to the ocean. They were protesting no taxation without representation!
  • The Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act
    The British government took control of the territory in Quebec. They chose who would control it and basically took it from the colonists.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    55 delegates from 12 colonies selected to help settle the conflict aganist the British. This helped the colonies unify.
  • Shot heard round the World!

    Shot heard round the World!
    No one knows who fired the first shot, but now it was inevitable. War had begun.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    2nd Continental Congress
    Relations with the British had taken a turn for the worst. After Lexington and Concord the colonists needed new ideas fast.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    Adopted by the 2nd Continental Congress as an effort to make peace with the British one final time.
  • Thomas Paine: Common Sence

    Thomas Paine: Common Sence
    Thomas Paine hated the British and wrote a pamphlet saying how it should just be common sence that we would go to war with them. He encouraged the colonists to break free from British rule and be independent.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Thomas Jefferson was recruited to write this because he was well-written and young. This was basically a list of greviences and complaints aganist the king. They sent this document to the French, asking for support, money and troops to help defeat the British.
