  • Proclamation of 1763

    This proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French and Indian War.

  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act required that the colonists house the British soldiers and they had to provide them with anything they needed. Also, Britain wanted the colonists to pay for part of the war debt.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act is a law that makes all commercial documents carry an official stamp that shows a tax was paid. This angered the colonists because it affected them as well as merchants. Colonists boycott British goods. Soon after, Parliament repeals this act.
  • Townshend Act

    The Townshend Act was passed to raise revenue. This act put taxes on glass, paint, led, tea, and other goods. Colonists felt like it violated their natural rights of life, liberty, and property. The leader of the Sons of Liberty, Samuel Adams, starts another boycott of British goods until the repeal this act, whch they soon do....except the tax on tea.
  • Tea Act and Boston Tea Party

    Tea Act and Boston Tea Party
    The Tea Act gave Britain control over American tea trade and the people still had to pay taxes on the tea. It angered everyone. The Sons of Liberty organized the Boston Tea Party. In 1773, men disquised themselves as Native Americans and threw all the tea off the ships in the sea. Britain required payment on all tea and the men put on trial.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord are the first battles of the Revolutionary War. In 1775, British troops "bump into" militiamen at Lexington. British won that battle.Then they continued onto Concord to destroy supplies. They are met up by some more militiamen along with some Minutemen. The Patriots won that battle.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    Americans send the Olive Branch Petition to Britain's king in July of 1775.This Petition asks the king to restore the harmony between Britain and the colonies. The king rejects the petition and then blocks the ships from leaving, or entering, their ports. Also, the king sends German soldiers to fight in America.

    Declaration of Independance
    The Declaration of Independance proclaims independace and claims that people have special rights that not even the government can take away. if they tried to, they no longer had the tight to govern. There were five parts to the Declaration of Independance. These parts were preamble, right of people to control their government,tyrannical acts of the British king, effects of the colonies to avoid separation, and the colonist are declared free and independant.
