    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British goverment feared the conflict between colonist and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French and Indian War.

    Quartering Act
    To save costs the colonists were forced to quarter or house British soldiers. They had to provide them with a place to sleep and supplies and they did not get anything in return. The colonists did not like this at all.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp ACt was a law that required all legal and commercial documents to carry an official stamp. This stamp showed that a tax had been paid. Colonists had to pay with silver coins which were scarce. They did not approve with this act.

    Townshend Act
    The Townhead Acts suspended New Yorks assembly until New Yorkers hused British soldiers. It placed import taxes on glass, paint, paper,lead, tea, and other and other various goods on New Yorkers.

    The Tea Act was a law that placed taxes on tea and declared thatt you could only buy tea from the British East India Company. This enraged many colonists. A pack of americans disguised as Native Americans boarded 3 ships. They threw a million dollars worth of tea out to sea. This event came to be known as The Boston Tea Party.

    The Intolerable acts were laws that were placed as a result of the Boston Tea Party. It closed the port of Boston until colonists would pay for the destroyed tea.Not many supplies came in or out of the colonies.This made colonists very mad and many starved.

    The battles of Lexington and Concord were the first battles of the Revolutionary War. What be gan the war was the "shot heard around the world" which no one knew who shot. Americans had to choose sides andback up with force of arms.

    The Olive Branch Petition was adocument formed by the moderates. It asked the king to restore peace between Britain and the colonies. The King rejected the petition, and announced new measures to punish the colonies.

    The Declaration of Independance was a document in which the colonies declared independance on Britain. They picked Thomas Jefferson to compose this Declaration because he was a great writer and he was from Virginia. No independence movement could succeed without Virginia's support.
