    European settle in North america

    In September, 1565 Pedro Menendez who was sponsored by Spain landed on the shore of Matanzas Bay and began the founding of the presidio of San Augustine. Later the settlement would be St. Augustine, Florida.

  • Savannah become capital of Georgia.

    In February, 1733 James Oglethorpe established on the Savannah River. The city of Savannah became the British colonial capital of province of Georgia and later the first state capital of Georgia.

    By issuing the Declaration of Independence, adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, the 13 American colonies several their political connection to Great Britain. The Declaration summarized the colonies motivation for seeking Independence.
  • Augusta become the capital of Georgia

    Augusta became the capital of Georgia. In 1786 legislature established a commission to find a permanent location for Georgia capital.

    Savannah served as a Key British base for their southern war operations, and the grim four years. British occupation won many Georgians over to the Patriot cause. In 1788, Georgia became the first southern state.

    The 10 amendments to the Constitution made up the Bill of Rights. They were written by James Madison in response to calls from several states for greater Constitutional protection for individual liberties.

  • Lincoln Emancipation

    On September 22, 1862, Lincoln issued a preliminary warning that he would order the emancipation of all slaves in any state that did not end its rebellion against the Union by January 1, 1863.
  • Battle of Atlanta

    The Battle of Atlanta was fought on July 22, 1864, just southeast of Atlanta, Georgia. Union forces commanded by William T. Sherman, wanting to neutralize the important rail and supply hub, defeated Confederate forces defending the city under John B. Hood.
  • End of Confederacy

    In 1865 General Robert E. Lee surrender at Appomattox to the Union. Appomattox was the end of Confederacy.
  • Abolishment of Slavery

    Passed by Congress on January 31, 1865 and ratified, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States.
  • Atlanta became the capital

    Due to the city’s superior rail transportation network, the state capital was moved from Milledgeville to Atlanta in 1868. In the 1880 census, Atlanta surpassed Savannah as Georgia’s largest city.

    Hungary invaded the kingdom of Serbia after assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. September 26th-Federal Trade Commission was established. Oct 15th- Clayten Antitrust act was signed into law.
  • Women obtain the right to vote

    August 18th- 19th Amendment was ratified. This Amendment gave women the right to vote. January 17th- 18th Amendment and Volstead Act came into force, forbidding production, sale, transportation of alcoholic beverages. January 1920-1921- Deflationary recession began in the United States.
  • 1929

    Start of the Great Depression. Martin Luther King was born in Atlanta, Ga. American Samoa officially became a United States territory.
  • 1933

    Roosevelt New Deal- Sept 25th- 1st state poor house opened in Smyrna, Ga. January 23rd- 12th Amendment to the United States Constitution. Dec 5th- 21st Amendment to United States Constitution ending prohibition was ratified.

    Start of the Cold War Berlin Blockade. July 18th- Presidential Succession Act signed into law. Nov 2nd- Henry Truman elected a 2nd term to United States Presidential election.
  • 1954

    Start of the Civil Rights Movement. Sept 8th- United States became a member of Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO). May 17th- Brown vs Board of Education Supreme Court declared state laws establishing separate public education for blacks and whites student .(Unconstitutional).

    Vietnam War. Nov 1st -President Eisenhower deploy first American personnel from Military Advisory Group to South Vietnam after First Indochina War.
  • 2001

    First inauguration of George W. Bush inaugurated the forty- third President of the United States. October 26th Patriot Act- increased law enforcement agencies ability to conduct searches in case of suspected terroism, was signed into law.
  • 2008

    Africa America first President Barack Obama was inaugurated as the forty-fourth President of the United States. February 17th- President Barack signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 787 million economic stimulus package.
