  • Proclamation of 1763

    This proclamtion did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountians. The British government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French and Indian War.

  • Quartering Act

    This act was passed on by Parliament. This act required colonists to house British soldiers and give them any supplies that is needed whether they liked it or not. The colonists couldn't deny or not do what they were told by the British soldiers.
  • Townshend Act

    These were series of laws passed by Parliament. This one did not allow assemblies to happen in New York. There was one that created taxes on goods brought to British colonies. The purpose of the Townshend Act was to bring and raise revenue in the colonies. It was also to punish the province of New York for failing the demand of doing the Quartering Act right.
  • Tea Act and Boston Tea Party

    Since the British East India Company had control over American Tea Trade, they put a tax on tea. Ofcourse the colonists got mad. As a result, the Boston Tea Party occured. The Boston Tea Party was when the colonists dumped 342 chests of tea overboard, into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Act

    This act was passed on by Parliament to punish Massachusetts colonists for the Boston Tea Party. This law was also past on to warn other colonists. It was basiclly to warn everybody that they are powerful and can do anything, and that the colonists have no power over them.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    In Massachusetts, these were the first battles that happened in American Revolution. During these battles no one knew who fired first. Later, this man named, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that the troops had fired the "shot heard 'round the world."
  • The Olive Branch Petition

    This document asked the king to bring peace between the British and the colonies. It was written by congress and cent to London. This document was rejected, as a result, the king thought of new ideas in punishing the colonists.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The colonists wanted to be independent and break free from Britain. The document stated this. On July 4, 1776, Congress excepted and adopted the document, which means that the colonists are free. This was a really big deal for all the colonists.
