    Proclamation of 1763
    This Proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation because they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French and Indian war.

    Quartering/Stamp Act
    The Quartering Act lets British troops to come live with the colonists during the wars. This act requires colonists to house British soldiers and provide them with supplies they need.The Stamp Act is an offical stamp, that shows a tax has been paid. Colonial merchants boycott British goods. The Sons of Liberty protest British policies.

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts requires all commercial documents must carry an offical stamp. This act places duties or import taxes on glass, paint, lead, tea and other goods. British use writs of assistance to enforce acts. The Writs of Assistance was like a search warrent to make sure no one was smuggling goods in and out of the colonies.

    Boston Tea Party/Tea Act
    Parliament repeals the Townshend Acts, except for the tax on tea, the Tea Act gives Britain control over American tea trade and still had to pay tax on tea. This angered colonial shippers and merchants. The Sons of Liberty organized a protst known as the Boston Tea Party. On December 16,1773, men disguised as Native Americans bored 3 tea ships and destroyed 342 chests of tea. Britain wants repayment and men responsiable went to trial.

    Britain is angry about the Boston Tea Party.Parliament passes the Intolerable Acts. They closed Boston until colonists pay for the destroyed tea. Banned committees of correspondence. Allowed Britain to house troops whenever necessary. Allowed British officals accused of crimes to stand trial in Britain.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    700 British troops reach Lexington and are met by 70 militiamen. Fight begins and 8 militamen were dead, British troops march to Concord and destroy supplies. British troops fight militamen and minutemen at Concord and are forced to retreat.4000 minutemen and militamen arrive,Lexington and Concord is the first battle of the Revoutionary War. Loyalist support the British, Patriots support thr rebels.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    Americans send Olive Branch Petition to Britain's king. Petition asks king to restore harmony between Britain and the colonies. King rejects petition, blocks American ships from leaving their ports. Sends Hessians, hired German soldiers to fight in America. Washington trains colonial army, approve plan to invade Quebec. Leader Benedict Arnold, colonial army fail to defeat British in Quebec.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    Colonial Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence. Proclaims the independence of colonies, claims people have rights that government cannot take away. The commitee chooses Thomas Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence. If government disregards these rights, it loses it's right to govern. People or colonists can abolish a government that disregards their rights. People can form new government that will protect there rights.
