    French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War was a war between the British and French, with Native Americans on both sides, over the area Controlled by the French in the North America. The British fought this war because they thought that they should control the land and settle it, while the French wanted it for its large animal population so that they could have a plentiful Fur trade with the Natives. The Colonists wanted to help Britain win the war so that they could settle in the French Territories
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    It was a Law set forth by the British Parliament that made it Illegal for colonists to own or settle land past the Appalachian Mountains. The British did not want to anger the currently allied Natives by Stealing their land. The Colonists were mad because they thought that they would be allowed to settle the land, but were unable to.

    Treaty of Paris
    A treaty between the French and British that gave control of all French territory in the New World to the British. The British wanted the land because they wanted to colonize it. The Colonists were happy because they wanted to colonize the French Territory
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    A tax on Sugar and Molasses. Passed to help the Monarchy recover its money from the War. Did not affect many of colonists, but made the idea of taxes an issue.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    A Tax on all paper, required an official seal. Help monarchy recover from war. Outraged the colonists, a boycott was organized and the act repealed.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Forced colonists to provide food, housing and comfort for British soldiers. Done to save the British Monarchy money they would have spent on it.Hated by the colonits, but there was little they could do about it.
  • Townsend Acts

    Townsend Acts
    Put a tax on things like paper, glass, lead and tea.It was made to get the monarchy more money. The colonists boycotted Birtish goods.
  • Writs of Assistance

    Writs of Assistance
    Allowed customs officers to serach any ships they wished. It was designed to stop smugglers from bypassing the Townshend Act. Merchants felt it was an invasion of privacy, but the colonists were mostly uneffected.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Mob of colonists confronted British soldiers in front of Boston Customs House. 5 colonists shot and killed. Soldiers wanted to get the mob away. The opportunity was taken by anti- British writers, who called it a massacre to get people to hate Britain
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Sons of Liberty dumped 90,000 Pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor. The colonists were reacting to the Tea Act.The Sons of Liberty wanted to undermine the authority of the British and cost them a lot of money. The Parliament responded by issuing the Intolerable Acts.

    Intolerable Acts
    Town meetings were illegalized, the Port of Boston was closed and all customs officials were tried in Britain. The British did not want something like the Tea Party to happen again. The first Continental Congress met and the colonies began to unify.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    Met in Philadelphia to decide what the colonies would do about the British Taxation. Bnned all trade with Britain and called for the Colonies to train armies.
  • "Give Me Liberty"

    "Give Me Liberty"
    A Speech given at the first continental congress by Patrick Henry. Was never transcribed, but no one who was present forgot what the basis of it was, conveyed in the last line as “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death”. Designed to make the colonists realize what they needed to do to fight for liberty. Was committed as treason to the British Crown, so it probably made them extremely angry
  • Battles of Concord and Lexington

    Battles of Concord and Lexington
    The First 2 battles of the Revolution. The British were going to Lexington to capture Samuel Adams and to Concord to destroy a Military Supply. The Colonists were waiting for them. At Lexington the British failed to capture Sam Adams and at Concord they destroyed the Supplies. But, Militia and Minutemen lined the road back to Lexington from Concord and they killed many of the British. The main players of this battle were Paul Revere and the other two on the Midnight Ride, as well as the leaders.

    Formed the Continental army with General George Washington in command. Sent the Olive Branch petition to convince the King to stop the Taxes, but were promptly refused.
  • Bunker Hill

    Bunker Hill
    In response to Intel gathered by spies, the Americans stealthily occupied 2 hills that the British intended to assault. The British won, but the location was not enough of a strategic advantage to be worth the 1000+ casualties. The Leaders in this battle were William Prescott for the Americans and William Howe for the British.

    A colonial Fort that was needlessly surrendered to the British.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
    A pamphlet released by Thomas Paine that claimed that the British (who live on a small Island halfway across the world) had neither the right nor the ability to rule the American Colonies (an area larger than them). This led to the Americans realizing that they could and should be free of British Rule.
  • Battle of New York

    The British attacked the center of Colonial Economy- New York City. British and Hessians attacked Long Island and delivered heavy injuries. Washington retreated to Pennsylvania
  • Battle of Trenton

    On christmas of the year 1776, Washingtontook his troops across the Delaware River to Trenton, New Jersey. Once there, They successfully captured 800+ Hessian mercenaries. It, along with the Battle of Princeton led to colonial control of New Jersey
  • Battle of Princeton

    Attacked soon after Trenton in a similar fashion. 300+ British troops captured. the Colonists had control of New Jersey
  • Decleration Of Independence

    Decleration Of Independence
    Written by Thomas Jefferson, It was a document that declared the Independence of America, why they were calling for Independence and what the New Government would be founded on and the limits that would be set on it. On July 4, 1777 it was signed by all the members of the Continental Congress.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    General Burgoyne planned to cut off New England from the Rest of the Colonies, but was unsecuessful. The Colonists cut-off the roads and surrounded Burgoyne, who ppromptly surrendered.

    Winter at Valley Forge

    A harsh winter, Washington and his troops bunkered down at VAlley Froge, buit were low on supplies and many colonists died. Lafeyette came and helped finance the war and trained troops.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    General Cornwallis was cutoff by a French Fleet just off the coast and surrounded by French and colonial soldiers. he surrendered after 3 weeks of fighting.
  • Treaty of Pais

    Organized the surrender of the British. the terms were that
    -the British had to acknowledge America as a country
    -they also had to give up all of their control of American lands except Canada
    -the Americans had to return all Loyalist property that was lawlessly taken
