  • Louisiana Purchase- The American Dream

    The US' largest land acquisition purchased from France which doubled the size of the Country. The Louisiana Purchase is significant to the American Dream because The American Dream is all about expanding the Country and opportunity. The Louisiana Purchase expanded the Nation's territory while also providing opportunities to other Americans.

    Leadership Abraham Lincoln

    16th President of the United States; saved the Union during the American Civil War and emancipated the slaves; was assassinated by Booth (1809-1865). The Significance of Abraham Lincoln to Leadership is because He ended the civil war where America was at each other's throats and tried to be the best leader he could be at the time.
  • Compromise- The Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise was an effort by Congress to defuse the sectional and political rivalries triggered by the request of Missouri late in 1819 for admission as a state in which slavery would be permitted. At the time, the United States contained twenty-two states, evenly divided between slave and free. The Missouri Compromise is significant to Compromise is because Congress tried to handle the situation of Missouri as best as possible. Everyone was happy for the moment.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo - Diplomacy

    agreement ending the Mexican-American War in which Mexico ceded territory including California and New Mexico to the United States and the U.S. agreed to pay $15 million and assume Mexican debts to American citizens. The significance of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo to diplomacy is that it was an agreement ending the Mexican-American War to end the bloodshed but the US gained territory and the US agreed to pay Mexican debts
  • Homestead Act- Settlement

    1862 legislation that allowed Americans to claim up to 160 acres of public land; the act prompted widespread settlement of the Great Plains. The significance of the Homestead Act to Settlement is that it allowed Americans to claim 160 acres of land from the new Purchase to find new opportunities in a strange new land.
  • The Battle of Little Big Horn- Conflict

    A battle in which General George Custer and his forces were defeated by Sioux and Cheyenne warriors on June 25, 1876, popularly known as Custer's Last Stand. It took place in the valley of the Little Bighorn River in Montana.
  • Progress- Transcontinental Railroad

    A train route across the United States, finished in 1869. It was the project of two railroad companies: the Union Pacific built from the east, and the Central Pacific built from the west. The two lines met in Utah. The Transcontinental Railroad is significant to Progress because of trains being able to carry people, supplies, or anything from the Union Pacific in the east to the Central Pacific in the West. It is a step towards better transportation.
