  • Industrial Revolution

    A transition into new social and economical ideas that helped advance technology and manufacturing products.
  • Second Great Awakening

    A Protestant religious revival in which a lot more congregations gained Baptist and Methodist followers.
  • Cotton Gin

    An invention by Eli Whitney that helped remove seeds from cotton fiber, making it easier to produce cotton which made slave labor more popular and in need.
  • Manifest Destiny

    A belief that U.S. settlers were destined to expand from the east coast to the west coast.
  • Missouri Compromise

    The Missouri Compromise was an effort lead by Congress to end the sectional and political rivalry that was triggered by the request of Missouri in 1819, which implied that slavery would be permitted.
  • Jackson's Presidency

    A "common man", Jackson served as the seventh President of the United States from 1829-37.
  • Indian Removal Act

    During Andrew Jackson's presidency the Indian Removal Act was passed. It forced Indians to walk thousands of miles (The Trail of Tears) west of the Mississippi River in exchange for their homeland.
  • Nullification Crisis

    A confrontation between South Carolina and the government (during Jackson's presidency) where South Carolina tried to veto a law set by Andrew Jackson.
  • Lightbulb

    Joseph Wilson Swan invented the first non-electric light bulb
