    The Formation of the United Nations

    After WWII, a new peace-keeping organization was needed. From April to June, 1945, representatives from 50 nations gathered in San Francisco to discuss world peace.
  • General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade

    Formed in 1947, it was signed into international law on January 1st, 1948. It aimed to reduce tariffs and stimulate world trade.
  • Universal Declaration of Human Rights

    First commissioned in 1946, the declaration was drafed for 2 years. It was created in response to the attrocities against the Jewish people in WWII. Canadian John Peters Humphrey was the principal drafter, and worked with 17 others to create the final draft, which was officially passed on December 10, 1948.
  • Canada in the Korean War

    Canada in the Korean War
    Canada officially joins the Korean War as part of the United Nations, marking the initiation of one of the hardest wars Canada was to face.

    My grandfather on my dad's side returns to China to find a wife. Upon getting married, they return to Canada and start up a small shop. They have moved since then, and since my grandfather passed away, I can't find out exactly where the shop was, or the exact date.

    The Women's Movement in Canada

    After WWII, women were moved back to the "less than men" status. Starting in the 1960's, women were working industry jobs, but were being treated less equally than men. This provoked the Women's Liberation Movement in the 1960's to 1971 (exact dates unknown).
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    On October 14th-27th, 1962, the Cuban Missile Crisis threatens world peace. Fidel Castro called on Nikita Khrushchev and Soviet Russia for assistance in fear of the US. The USSR then placed 40 nuclear-capable rockets on Cuba.

    On the 22nd of November, 1963, President John F. Kennedy is assassinated. This affects the world because of how influencial the US is during this time.

    On the 28th of August, 1964, Martin Luther King Jr. recited his famous speech, I Have A Dream. The impact from the speech gained world wide attention, and was a major contribution to the rights of negros in the 1960's.
  • Canada's New Flag

    Canada's New Flag
    Canada originally attempted to change it's flag because the French Canadians felt that it was too closely associated with the British Empire. However, the idea was held of in the 1920's, and again in 1946. During the Suez Crisis in the late 1950's, the Egyptians had refused to trust Canada due to the British elemants in their flag. Due to these incidents, Canada's new flag was passed at 2:30 AM on December 15, 1964. It was then approved by the Senate on January 28, 1965.

    Pierre Elliot Trudeau is elected as the 15th Prime Minister of Canada. He was later elected again in March 3rd, 1980.

    On October 5th, James Cross is kidnapped by the FLQ. This officially starts the October Crisis, leading to the admission of the War Measures Act during peace time. It also leads to the death of Pierre Laporte, Quebec's Labour Minister.

    Mom's Imiggration to Canada

    At the time, my mom lived in Laos. Due to the repercussions of US bombing during the Vietnam War, my mom originally had to move to Thailand. However, the influence of the war eventually affected Thailand, as well- forcing my mother to escape to Canada with her 4 sisters.
  • My Mother is Adopted

    After immigrating to Canada, my mom and her 4 sisters are adopted by Vince and Anna Savage. Exact date is unknown.
