  • Proclamation

  • Sugar Act

    An act that put a three-cent tax on foreign refined sugar & increased taxes on coffee, indigo, & certain kinds of wine.

    Reduce the British National debt, pay the cost of having 10,000 troops stationed in American colonies. "No Taxation Without Representation"
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. As well as every other little thing they used, they were charged.

    Writs of assistance were court orders that authorized customs officers to conduct general (non-specific) searches of premises for contraband. When the British Government adopted a stronger coercive policy with its Writs of Assistance in 1761, James Otis opposed the measure in a celebrated speech.

    Lexington and Concord
    Part of the British occupation force in Boston marched to the nearby town of Concord, Massachusetts, to seize a colonial militia arsenal. Militiamen of Lexington and Concord intercepted them and attacked.
  • First Continental Congress

    They once again petitioned Parliament, King George III, and the British people to repeal the acts and restore friendly relations. They also banned all British goods in the colonies.
