- Julilly was accompanied my many other frightened children and three men who were chained to the back of the wagon.
- When Old John saw Julilly, he waved his white handkerchief till it became a tiny speck and disappeared.

  1.The weather was hot and the children frightened.
 2.The children were very thirsty. Julilly started shimmering pools of water ahead of their cart.
 3.The slave-trader's bottle was empty so he ordered the driver to stop so that he could re-fill his bottle. This meant that the three men would have a break.
 4.There they saw a tall white man axing a tree with a small nigger boy stacking the wood. When they saw the slaves, they got him water.
 5.The nigger boy told Julilly that he was a free boy.
