    lexington and concord pt2
Even though the Minutemen were defeated at Lexington, they sent the British running from Concord. Even though the British were well-organized and powerful, the Patriots were fueled by their enthusiasm against injustice and proved they were able to stop the British.

    lexington and Concord
The events at Lexington and Concord were a major turning point in the American Revolution, because the conflict had officially turned into a physical war, not just a verbal and mental war. When General Gage moved towards Concord on April 18, 1775, his ultimate goal was to destroy the large supply of gunpowder and weapons the colonists were
hiding. At Lexington, a small band of Minutemen stood to stop the British, and this was where the "shot heard round the world" was fired.
  • Victory at Trenton

    Victory at Trenton
The crossing of the Delaware River and the battle at Trenton is the most significant during the American Revolution because it was turning point in the war for the Americans. George Washington, the general of the Continental Army, knows he must do something, and fast. The soldiers' term was about to expire, and he needed more men. However, very little men are willing to sign up because to them, the war seemed hopeless.

    Victory at Trenton
Washington decides to launch a surprise attack on Trenton, where the Hessians were happily enjoying their Christmas feast. Late on December 25, 1776, Washington's army slipped across the half-frozen Delaware River. When they reached Trenton, the Americans found the Hessians sleeping off their Christmas feast. They were caught by surprise and surrendered to the Americans. Washington took 868 prisoners without losing any of his men.

    Victory at Trenton
A week later, Washington's troops captured 300 more British soldiers in Princeton, New Jersey. This event showed everyone that Americans could stand up to Great Britain, and it would not be so easy to defeat the Americans. The British knew that it would take more than capturing New York and issuing pardons to win. The patriots were inspired by this victory and were determined to stay loyal to America. It gave them faith that they might actually win the war.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
On the map it seemed to be an easy route but in reality it was way worse. To make this journey worse was the fact that Burgoyne (The British Commander) didn't travel light! He had 600 wagons and 30 of then had his own luggage. His plan included meeting up with the army of General Howe from Albany, New York. This way both of the armies can block the New England form the rest of the colonies.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
Both of the sides started to come up with different strategies to defeat one another. The British strategy was to take control of New York's Hudson River. This would cause the New England to get cut off from the other states. By cutting of New England it would cause the Continental Army to not get any men and supplies which would lead to the colonists to admit defeat. But this plan had its flaws. One of them was the route which consisted of densely packed forests.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
This made the British slow down a lot, and gave time to the colonists to get their army ready. On October 17, 1777 when the British actually reached Saratoga Springs (which is near Hudson River) the colonists were already ready. This is what caused British to lose this battle and the fact that most of the soldiers were tired from the long journey. Another reason this was an important battle is that it gained the support of the French who could supply them with soldiers, weapons and money.
  • Surrender at Yorktown

    Surrender at Yorktown
The Surrender at Yorktown was 4th most significant because it was the last battle and ended the war with America winning. As the 8,000 British troops left Yorktown to lay down the arms the slow tune known as "The World Turned Upside Down" played. This song symbolized how it was upside doen since the might Britich was supposed to win but instead the underdog America won. After this event the war was over even though it didn't officially end until the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783.
