    Columbus lands in the new world

    Columbus lands in the new world
    Columbus tried to sail to China but landed in the Americas. The new world was more land for Europe to explore and inhabit.
  • Jamestown founded

    Jamestown founded
    Over 100 people sailed into Chesapeake Bay, went up the James River, and founded Jamestown which was the first British settlement in the new world. People had high hopes because of the lush greenery, freshwater streams, a hidden trade route to China, possible riches, and natives that could be converted to Catholicism.
  • Pilgrims land in Plymouth

    Pilgrims land in Plymouth
    The Mayflower landed outside of the Virginia Company's jurisdiction in Plymouth and not near the Hudson River. As a result, a fight broke out between the "Strangers" and the Pilgrims who then united to create the Mayflower Compact. The Mayflower Compact was a list of rules of how they would govern themselves and continue to govern themselves in the future.

    Benjamin Franklin proposed a new idea to the thirteen colonies which was that they should unite together under one government or they would die. The colonies rejected his proposal.
  • French and Indian war...

    French and Indian war...
    The 7 Years War or the French and Indian War took place in the Americas and Europe between the French and Native Americans and the British. The main point of the war for both France and Britain was to claim more land. The British took the Ohio River Vally and then the French captured 6 British trading posts resulting in the British demanding that they leave. The French refused and in response the British build Fort Necessity and they continue to have conflicts.

    Proclamation of 1763
    The king said no one was to move past the Appalachian Mountains. Many of the colonist where upset and rejected his proclamation because they felt the king had no right to tell them what to do after salutary neglect during the 7 Years War.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The French surrendered the Ohio River Valley to the British. and The French influence ended in the new world.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The British had lots of debt and wanted the colonists to pay more taxes. Stamp act passed and made colonists pay for every sheet of paper of any kind. The colonist did not like this so they refused to pay and protested. The protests eventually got to the British and they canceled the act.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Troops in the New World did not have housing so the British passed the Quartering Act which required the colonists to house British troops. This upset the colonists. New York did not approve the troops funds because they didn't need troops during peacetime. The British then eliminated New York's assembly until they chose to abide by their law.
  • Townshend act

    Townshend act
    The British needed more money for the colonists expenses, as a solution they taxed the colonists imports such as candles, glasses, paint, and tea. In reaction to their new taxes the colonists were angered and protested. They tried to source there products from America and avoided taxed items. The British told them to stop but when the colonists didn't comply the British sent troops to Boston.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Three men were killed and eight others were injured when British sentries stationed at the Boston Customs House fired shots into a gathering of people  in the afternoon.

    The tea act allowed for the East India company to be the only company able to sell the colonists tea this upset the colonists because of the taxes.

    The Boston tea party was when colonists sunk on to a British tea ship dressed as native Americans and dumped 343 chests of tea into the Boston harbor to get the East India company and the British attention

    The Intolerable (coercive) acts where acts that were men't to punish Massachusetts for the Boston tea party. they were called Intolerable because the colonists were very anger by them and it caused conflict.

    The Continental congress had their first meeting on how to avoid war with the British, their solution was that by not purchasing British goods they could pressure the king into lowering taxes.

    The Continental Congress's first priority was defense and they needed an army and a leader so they chose George Washington.

    A petition sent to the British offering them peace. The Americans were not ready for war and wanted to compromise and possibly fix their damaged relationship even after the king ignores the petition they keep trying.
  • Battle of Concord

    Battle of Concord
    The battle of Concord was one of the first military conflicts during the revolution. Men hurried to Concord's North Bridge, where a group of British soldiers was stationed. The   British to retreat after firing first.

     Lexington was not a very big military setback but it was  bad for the  British it also marked the start of the war.

    The American Revolution consisted of many battles from Bunker hill to Yorktown all the battles in the war where important and all contributed to the freedom of the American people.

    Common sense by Thomas Paine
    Common sense by Thomas Paine was a book written about how its common sense that they should fight and that they did't need Britain to be powerful and strong. He also noted that Britain never put there priorities first or treat us in the right manor, the book became very popular and they reached most if not all of the 13 colonies.

    The Congress ratifies the U.S constitution giving unwritten policy's to the states to decide.

    The Treaty of Paris took place after we gained independence. it granted the Americans the land east of the Mississippi making travel safer and doubling their size. The British were forced to pay off American debt and they lost al their land from Canada to Florida.

    After the American Revolutionary War, a financial debt crisis led to Shays' Rebellion.

    Whiskey Rebellion
    Farmers where using extra corn to make whiskey. A whiskey tax was put in place by the government and the people began to rebel. The rebellion was dangerous and could have lead to the fall of the U.S because of riots and fighting.

    The U.S wanted to negotiate another peace treaty with France.The French did not want to meet and demanded 250,000$ just for one meeting. The U.S did not have the money.

    The war was between Great Britain and the U.S over trade disagreements, westward expansion, Native American rules, and Britain kidnapping sailors and forcing them to serve the British navy. The war lasted three years with no winner. The war boosted our countrys confidence and gained us more respect.
