  • Aug 3, 1492

    Columbus Sails

    Columbus Sails
    Aboard the NIna, Pinta, and Santa Maria Columbus and his crew set sail to find a quicker trade route by sea. Aiming for Asia, however, would be trickier than expected. They landed on present day Carrabean islands; at first Columbus thought they had landed in Japan. After searching for the goods he promised Spain and with no luck in March 1493 he turned around and went back home. He did leave 40 men in a new settlement in present day Haiti to see what they could do.

    These colonies were founded between the time of 1607 to 1732. The colonies were as follows: Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maryland, Conneticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia.

    French and Indian War Start
    The French and Indian war was also called the 7 years war. Before the war, the French led expeditions to try and make peace with the Native Americans there. The causes of this war were both New England and New France had claim over Ohio Country and both wanted more fur trade. English colonists feared the papal influences while the French feared anti-Catholicism.
    And on May 15, 1756 Britian declared war on France.

    7 years war End
    By the signing of the treaty of Paris the 7 years war came to an end. In the treaty France lost Canada and Luisiana, and Britian received Spanish Florida. 15 years later, still upset with the outcome the French help the patriots in the American Revolution, but that's a different story.
  • Industrial Revolution

    Industrial Revolution
    Taking place in the 18th and 19th centuries the Industrial Revolution was changing how goods were made. Before this most things were made by hand in homes and it took months to get places. After the invention of the cotton gin, people didn't have to manually pluck out the seeds. The train and steam boat made it easier for people to travel from place to place. Telegraphs were also created to make it easy for people to communicate with one another.

    Boston Tea Party
    After the war King George needed a way to pay for everything. He found his solution by taxing the colonists. Acts such as the sugar act, quartering act, stamp act and the townshed act all led up to the tipping point; the tea act. After the tea act was enforced the colonists had it and decided to show what they thought about the raised taxes. A group of colonists dressed up like indians and dumped all of the tea into the harbor of Boston.
  • Revolutionary War

    After all the taxes being placed on the American colonists, things weren't looking so good for the king. The people got angry because they didn't have any representation in Parliament. During the Revolutionary war many battles happened, but in the end the colonists won their independence and were forever known as the United States of America. Of course they weren't finished just like that, they still had to form a government that made the people happy.
  • The Constitution is written

    The Constitution is written
    The Constitutional Convention is held in Pennsylvania to discuss what changes need to be made for a successful government. After discarding the idea of amending the Articles of Confederation, George Washington came up with the Conneticut Compromise. And on September 17th, 1787 the Constitution was signed.
  • Lewis and Clark

    Lewis and Clark
    After the purchase of Luisiana the colonists wanted to know what they just bought and if it was livable. So the president,Thoms Jefferson, assembled two men to map out the area, these men were Lewis and Clark. Along the journey the encounter an indian named Sacagawea, she agrees to aid them in translations and navigation. They are all the while collecting samples and sending them back home to Jefferson. They don't just send plants, they also send many animals.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    Due to the pro/anti-slave states arguments towards each other Congress came up with a solution to make everybody happy! They drew an imaginary line across the colonies, anything north was a free state, while anything south was a slave state. For the time being this settled the dispute over free and slave states, but we all know how that turns out. That's for another time.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas
    This shocking even started with the Kansas-Nebraska Act which stated that the members of the state decide whether their state is free of slave holders. Due to the internal issue of slavery Kansas had many casualities. The fighting did eventually simmer down but it continued all the way up to 1861, just on a more minor scale.
