    The United States came to an agreement to purchase Alaska from Russia. The price that was negotiated was $7.2 Million. The treaty with Russia was negotiated and signed by the Secretary of State William Seward.

    Rockefeller built his first oil refinery near Cleveland and in 1970 incorporated the Standard Oil Company. Around 1882, he basically had a monopoly of the oil business in the US. Unfortunately, his business practices led to the passing of antitrust laws.

It worked by passing electricity through a thin platinum filament in the glass vacuum bulb, which delayed the filament from melting. Still amazingly enough, the lamp burned for a few hours.
