    The US made an agreement with Russia to buy Alaska for $7.2 million. This purchase gave America access to the Pacific ocean, Alaska ended up being a gold mine and became the Klondike Goldfield. The gold found made Alaska important and so it became a state.

    Chinese Exclusion Act
    This was the first significant law that restricted immigration to the U.S. Federal law proscribed entry of an ethnic working group on the thought that it endangered the good order of certain localities. Very few Chinese could enter the country and Chinese who had already come to the U.S. before the act were told if they left, they would need a certificate to return to the U.S.

Many people were getting sick and dying, and Sinclair's book put an end to that and led to meat packing regulations.
