    Baby cruises along furtniture and takes steps while holding a parents' hand. They can crawl forward or backwards, and over small barriers. Their grasping skills have improved and they can open a small hinged box. They begin to build small block towers and turn knobs.

    13-15 Months-Cognitive
    The toddler begins to notice actions of children and adults. They like to mimic actions. They begin to search for a toy that has rolled out of sight. They discover the ability to make things happen by themselves. They have very short memory. They show interest in pictures and textures. They can say about 4-6 words.
  • 16-18 Months-Physical

    16-18 Months-Physical
    The toddler can walk sideways and stands on either foot with support. They walk fast, but cannot kick a ball. They begin to jump and throw, as well as pushing and pulling large toys. At this age, they begin to show hand preference in all activities. They begin to scribble and work puzzles with one or two pieces.

    The toddler is very inquisitive and likes to investigate. They can remember where an object belongs. They begin to figure things out through thought process. The attention span is short. They try to imitate the ways parents use different objects. Vocabulary increase to six to ten words. They use words instead of gestures. Toddlers say no more than any other word. They can give someone an object on demand. They also identify parts of their own body.

    The toddler can walk backwars and run without falling. They walk up and down stairs with help. The love running, jumping, and climbing, They jump forwards and in place. They hang from a bar that they grasp with their hands. They can kick a large ball without stepping on it. They hold two ojects in hand easily. They can build a tower of five or six blocks. They can fold paper if someone shows them how. One hand becomes dominant.

    19-21 Months-Cognitive
    The toddler progresses from simple imitation to imaginitve play. They can remember familiar objects without seeing them. They can retrieve things from a different room when asked. They form an interest in tiny things, such as bugs. They look at books for a longer amount of time and study the pictures. They like to draw on paper with big crayons. They learn to distinguish different sounds and smells. Their vocabulary consists of about 20 words.

    22-24 Months-Cognitive
    The toddler becomes more interested in the outcome of the activity than just the activity itself. They like the precise placement of objects such as in a puzzle. They are curious about how an object feels. They follow simple instructions. They form the ability to distinguish between vertical and horizontal lines.

    The toddler walks with more coordination and assurance. They bounce and sway in simple dance movements. They alternate between sitting and standing positions with ease. They like to play with modeling clay. They can open screw-type closures. They cut paper with scissors. They hold crayons with thumb and fingers.

    At this age, the torso lengthens and baby fat begins to disappear. They enjoy running but often collide with people or objects. they climb everywhere. They can kick a ball and throw a ball without aim. They open doors and unwrap candy.

    The toddler becomes interested in a children's TV show. They understand cause and effect of their behaviors. They can plan an activity and carry it out. They enjoy playing house and imitating family situations. They like to listen to tapes and records of stories and songs. They vocabulary is between 200 and 500 words.

    The toddler likes to be in constant motion. They go upstairs by alternating feet. They climb up a ladder and slide down. They jump from any elevated object. Aim is still poor. They can walk on their tip toes.

    They begin to classify objects. They can role play. They are doing harder puzzles. They can remember and follow 3 step commands. They recognize themselves in photographs. The vocabulary increases to about 1000 words. They use plural and past tense. They ask the names of objects and repeat them.
