    Women Fight for Equality
    Women won their rights in 1920, but it was in the 1960's that they took their equality even further; they wanted full equality. Most women had jobs in the 1960's but they weren't getting the fair amount of pay for their work. Often times they would get lower wages then men who had the same job as the women. In 1964 a Civil Rights Act was passed to stop discrimination because of a person's gender. As a result, more women then ever started to attend law school, medical school, and have jobs in the
  • Culture and Counterculture

    Culture and Counterculture
    A group called the "Hippies" were the main reason that counterculture occurred. They rebelled against "mainstream" culture. They were huge drug users, and they wanted peace, love, and freedom in the world. However, the hippie culture eventually collapsed and Nixon was then elected as president and the nation became more politically on course.
  • The New Frontier

    With the New Frontier, Kennedy wanted to get the economy out of recession. Some things that he planned was to increase Medicare, funding public housing, changes in immigration, ensure clean water, and increased protection. Everything included in the New Frontier was to form a "Great Society". People agree and disagree on whether these changes were what's best for the nation.

    A year long bus boycott, and 250,000 people held a march in Washington trying to get the civil rights bill passed. All of their efforts worked because e the official Civil Rights Bill was passed in 1964.Another law was later passed in 1965 that allowed African Americans to have voting rights.

    The elderly were originally left out of Medicare and Medicaid. The act allowed the elderly and disabled to be included in having medical health insurance. President Lyndon B. Johnson passed made this happen in 1965.

    Imigration Act
    The Immigration Act of 1965 was a bill signed in 1965 that changed the way that immigrants were admitted into America. It allowed people from more outside countries to come over into America. The purpose of having this bill was so that people could come to our country without problems because of their jobs/skills.
  • Vietnam

    Vietnam
    President Johnson sent about 500,000 troops over to Vietnam. Johnson wanted to win the war and win it quickly but it didn't happen. Then, in 1968, the Vietcong launched a surprise attack all across south Vietnam. People no longer favored Johnson as their president because of his poor decisions in sending troops and getting involved. North Vietnam won the war and America was shaken from it.

    When Nixon came in to office he was determined to revive federalism. He wanted to give more power to the states and less to the federal government

    This was created to show the new environmental movement. There was a new antipollution law created, and also the clean water act and safe drinking water act. Everyone in all worked to help create a cleaner environment.

    After many years of inequality things became equal between men and women. Before this women worked hard in workplaces and politics to become equal with men and even go in to professions that only men had worked in.

    Nixon was the president who allowed the Vietnamization for the US troops to withdrawal from the war. Nixon then tried to get South Vietnam prepared to take over the War. He created "Vietnamization" in order to try and end American involvement in the War.

    This is a federal law that was passed to limit the Presidents power to commit the United States to an Armed Forces. Congress created this law after Nixon's action in Cambodia.

    This helped create a new conservative revolution in American Politics. Reagan worked hard to change things in the US including shrinking the government, promoting free enterprise, and reduce spending on social groups.

    The New Right was mainly targeted at groups such as Hippies (drug use) and sexual revolution that were against main-stream culture values. It was made up of people that rebelled against traditional culture. Society was changing, and not for the good, or so many people thought. People now believed that having personal freedom was now okay.

    Reagan Doctrine
    This was Ronald Reagan's idea to eliminate communists governments in different countries such as Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It was also to help end the Cold War and having communist control in different regions of the world. Instead of having communism within the countries, the US wanted capitalism and democracy. The policy that were part of the Reagan Doctrine and that involved communism were successful in the US.
  • Nuclear Freeze Movement

    The idea of forming the Nuclear Freeze Movement was brought upon by Randall Forsberg. The movement was the end of the spread of nuclear weapons. The campaign was between the U.S and Soviet Union and they had a mutual agreement to stop testing, production, and development nuclear weapons. The Freeze Movement was highly supported by Democratic presidential nomination.

    George W. H. Bush
    Bush was elected in 1988 as president. He had a plan to increase economy and have more job opportunities. He also wanted to cut taxes. Instead, the country eventually went deep into debt. Lastly, he wanted to end government control of businesses.
  • Persian Golf War

    This was a war led by the United States. It started because Iraq invaded Kuwait. There was breakdown with oil production and debt payments. The United States fought with other nation to get Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait.
  • Contract with America

    Contract with America
    The Contract With America was a list of promised that Republicans made to Americans. It demonstrated the strength of the Republican group to unite together. It stated specific changes that were supposed to happen over different period of times. A majority of the bills that the Republicans made through the Contract With America made were passed.
  • Bill CLinton

    Bill CLinton
    Clinton signed the welfare reform bill in 1996. He brought a new values into the US, or so people thought. The reform reduced poverty, however, poverty didn't stay low for long because the welfare reform couldn't offer the same support as before. He also failed to provide health care. When it was Clinton's second term, he was impeached from office.
