WWI - The Roaring Twenties Introduction
1914-1929 was a time period filled with the highest of highs and lowest of lows. Many stories were about the soldiers on the battlefield fighting valiantly. Others were about the lives of a typical housewife, or immigrants' experiences entering Canada. But all of them, are centred on answering the question, "To what degree does this time period represent a period of progress or decline?" -
Canada's Declaration of War in 1914
On July 28th, 1914, the first World War was officially declared. This was in response to Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his spouse's assassination by Gavrillo Princip, whose sole goal was to free and solidify Serbia's independence from the Austrian Empire's rule. As Germany declared war on France in response to France aiding Russia in Serbia's defence, Britain announced its entry into the war. This would henceforth declare Canada's entry too, given they were still a colony of Britain.
