Timeline to Revolutionary War

  • Treaty of Paris (1763) (1)

    The treaty stopped the Britain and France war, which helped out the colony's by no other military threat to them.
  • Proclamation Act (2)

    King George iii, draws a line in the Appalachian Mountains that the colonists cannot live pass
  • The Sugar Act (3)

    Parliament passed the sugar act to try to enforce the tax on the colonists. But did not work, the colonists did not pay the tax and got molasses a different way.
  • The Stamp Act (4)

    British parliament passed so the Americans have a tax on anything printed.
  • The Quartering Act (5)

    British parliament passed on the Americans, that any British solider in need they must take in to house and feed.
  • Stamp Act Congress (6)

    When 9 of the colonies had a big meeting in New York to try and come up with a united plan.
  • Declaration of Rights and Grievances (7)

    Written by the Stamp Act Congress, it said that placing taxes on the British Colonists without there consent was wrong.
  • Stamp Act Repealed (8)

    When the parliament repeals the Stamp Act, but then passed Declaratory Acts where they have full power over the colonies.
  • Declaratory Act (9)

    After the repeal of the Stamp Act, parliament passed the Declaratory act so they can tax America the same they do to Britain.

    Parliament passed another tax act for glass, lead, paints, paper and tea.

    American "mob" British soldiers in Boston, then the soldiers one fire, killing 5.
  • Committees of Correspondce (12)

    Pre-meeting leading up to the First Colonial Congress.
  • Tea Act (13)

    Parliament passes this to help its main tea company to sell to the colonists without going to England first.
  • Boston Tea Party (14)

    When the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Natives Americans and threw over tea into the water to protest against the Tea Act,
  • The Intolerable Acts (15)

    Intolerable acts are four acts that the British government put together to try and control the colonies better.
  • First Continental Congress (16)

    12 out of 13 colonies come together in Philadelphia to resist the Intolerable Acts.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord (17)

    The British soldiers were sent to take the colonists weapons and in return the colonists fight back killing more than 700, their surprising win boosted the colonists into the war.

    The battle of bunker hill, where the British won, was a learning experience for both sides. The British learned that the Americans are tougher than they expected and the Americans learned that they can be the underdogs.

    Penn and Lee present a petition which then the king refused.

    Book written by Tomas Paine, advocating Independence of America
  • Declaration of Independence (21)

    Adopted by the Second Continental Congress to seek independence from Great Britain.
