  • Establishment of Jamestown

    The first permanent English colony established in James Town Virginia by Virginia Company of London. The British empire began by James Fort, and James Town served capital of Virginia for 93 years and in some times mortality was very high at James town due to starvation and disease. Connection to the Revolution??? Philosophies???
  • Arrival of the Mayflower

    1. Immigrants on the Mayflower landing in Plymouth, Nov. 11, 1620 and adopted the Mayflower compact before their arrival.
    2. The Mayflower contributed to the founding of the U.S. because it created a new colony in Virginia (now MA). And allowed for more colony's to push inland a make more settlements.
    3. Faction is a Philosophy which means a small, organized group. This works because the immigrants had to create a form of government that would govern they in their new country.

    structure and powers and claimed access to open sea trading. Philosophy: government-because the colonists set up the structure and powers; constitution because its became a law or standard.

    How: it led to Great Britain take over North America and eventually prompted our Declaration Philosophy: social contract because both side end up with 5 treaties Contribute: British won North America so they start to put taxes on us which lead to rebellion
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act of 1765 was the first internal tax levied on American colonists by the British government. One contribution was that the act imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of pro ted paper they used. Another contribution was almost the same as the first one as it taxed Ships papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications and even playing cards.
    Cause of Revolution???
    Philosophy: political culture since they were revolting against it.

    Parliament (the British government) passed the Tea Act May 10, 1773. It granted the British East India Company a monopoly on tea sales in the colonies. This was a catalyst to the Boston Tea Party. Many immigrants were from Britain and tea was part of their everyday lives. The price spike made tea unavailable, or practically so, in the American colonies. Angered, the colonists did not sit idle. Natural rights-what the British did wasn't right because they took part of Americans' culture.

    The Boston Tea Party was when the colonists tried to rebel against their own government, and that's when the government passed taxes on paint, paper and tea. The Tea Party was an important event for the Revolutionary War because colonists started to use violence in protest. Philosophies: popular sovereignty because the people pretty much took over the government and made their say and factions because the people had a different belief from the government and they didn't want that.

    Colonial delegates (except from Georgia) met in Philadelphia on September 5, 1774, and decided to prohibit trade with Britain and boycott British goods. The British government didn't like that and responded on April 19, 1775 when British soldiers clashed with colonial militias at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts. It was the first battle of the Revolution. Philosophy: faction-a small organization in politics, and that represents the colonies trying to break away from Great Britain.

    2) The Declaration Of Independence stated certain ideals that the colonists believed were important for men to have, such as liberty and equalities.

    3) Civil liberties & Natural rights were the two philosophers because people would establish a government to protect their rights.
