    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was and, his wife were shot and killed by nationalist during a visit to the capital. This event is what basically began WW1.

Air bombing occurred beforehand to knock out bridges and make Hitler think the invasion would be elsewhere. On June 17th over a half a million troops were deployed and began to push the Germans out of France.
