  • Charter

  • Child Labor

    In 1902 the committee on child labor was formed.
  • Federal Aid

    Federal Aid
    In 1905 the national PTA introduced resolutions endorsing federal aid for kindergarten and elementary schools.
  • Hot Lunch

    In 1912 PTAs sponsored hot lunch programs in many schools. Prior to this students had to bring their own lunches if they wanted to eat.
  • Wages

    In 1946 the board adopted a resolution recommending that beginning teachers with a college degree and full professional training be paid a minimum of $2,400 a year.
  • Floride

    In 1952 the board recommended that PTAs work for fluoridation of the water in their communities in hopes of improving the dental health of children.
  • Television

    In 1969 the PTA produced a 60 second television spot on smoking an health in an effort to improve public health.
  • Youth in Jail

    In 1983 the PTA convention adopted resolutions on children and youth in adult jails and lockups. The resolution sought for children and youth to be removed from adult facilities.
  • AIDS

    In 1989 the PTA lead the country in providing parents with pamphlets and information on AIDS which was a major national concern.
  • Common Core
