This is an important event because this will give us a lot of information mainly about the sun and more about the solar system. STERO launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station which is in Florida.
-
STEREO sent back it's first images of the sun. It showed the sun has a super hot atmosphere and is a million degrees celsius.
-
A solar eclipse happened on the sun but it was not visible on Earth. It is strange because it is weird how it was not visible on earth.
-
A sunspot erupted unexpectedly. It made a huge cloud with gas and was equivalent to a space tsunami not waves of water but of boiling magnetism.
-
A high solar wind erupted on the far side of the sun. It is one of the first major activities STEREO has seen so far.
-
The two STEREO spacecraft observed a huge eruption on the sun which happened for thirty hours (went into September 27). Both of the spacecrafts watched it for hours in a row which is one of the first times this has happened.
-
The mission saw the whole sun for the first time ever.
-
STERO discovered 122 eclipse stars. Even though STEREO's main purpose was for the sun, it could see starts from up to 20 days away.
-
For the first time, the spacecraft for STEREO watched a storm go onto our planet. This could advance space weather forecasting.
-
A sunspot with little warning exploded. A big explosion happened with hydrogen atoms. It is very powerful and STEREO watched it for one and a half hours.
